Support TEXFAD banana fibre textiles project

TEXFAD is a Not-for profit organization based in Uganda dedicated to transform banana waste pseudo-stems in to high quality sustainable textiles, rugs and hair extensions as suitable products contribution to humanity while saving our planet through utilization of natural resources sustainably. We transform waste banana pseudo stems into high quality sustainable textile products while supporting job and wealth creation among youths and women in Uganda, East Africa. We produce handmade textiles and offer opportunities for work based non-formal skills training programs targeting youths and women and create opportunities for banana farmers to add value to waste banana pseudo-stems and increase their incomes.

The primary beneficiary will be unemployed youths will benefit through access to work-based skills training and business incubation to support them to create start-ups along the banana fibre value chain.

The fund will benefit banana farmers in Uganda who are currently suffering low prices and post-harvest losses. They will have opportunity to sell the would-be waste stems and increase their incomes from banana farming which in turn lead to more banana growing and increased food security.

The fund will benefit TEXFAD as an organisation to acquire more efficient banana fibre extractors with high capacity to feed into training and diversification of product design.

The funds shall be used to procure banana fibre extractors that are more efficient and have capacity to extract more fibres. The current locally fabricated machine is old and has a waste of 30% of fibre. The funds will also be used to procure improved hand-looms and frame looms. The frame looms used in making banana fibre carpets are not safe for users and needs to be improved to ensure their safety. The fund will also increase on the capital to buy banana stems from peasant farmers.

The funding is needed within a period of 2 months. This is because we have many youths requesting for training in banana fibre extraction and application and willing to take the banana fiber business as their occupation for income generation.

The support means a lot to us. We are trending globally on banana fibre value addition into textiles, hair extensions and rugs. We receive so many applications for skills training but our capacity is still low. The funds will upscale opportunities for TEXFAD to offer a skill in banana fibre value addition to many Ugandans and other youths in Africa.website for more information about TEXFAD

We shall take time to thank every individual who send support to TEXFAD. We shall keep updating them on the progress and impact the funds will make towards realisation of our goal.
