Help Tetsuya's battle against Cancer (Liposarcoma)

Our dear friend, Mr. Tetsuya Sano, was diagnosed with "Liposarcoma" in 2009, then recurred in 2020 and had surgery in Japan, but was diagnosed again in September 2022, had surgery in Seattle in May 2023, but recurred again in September of the same year…He’s been continuously battling this severe illness.

As many of you know, Mr. Sano is a very positive, strong-minded, and courageous person. I have witnessed his battle with his illness and his passion for his work, education, and life that surpasses even his battle with illness through our work together at Seattle Math Abacus School. This time, he has decided to stay in Japan for a while for medical treatment, which has forced him to temporarily suspend his coffee-roasting business, which he loves dearly.

Liposarcoma is one of the malignant soft tissue tumors, a disease in which malignant tumors arise from fatty tissue. Malignant soft tissue tumors themselves are very rare cancers (rare cancer) with an annual incidence of less than 6 per 100,000 people. In this difficult situation, I’m launching GoFundMe to support him. The financial burden of medical expenses and treatment is enormous. I think he needs our help, and would like to ask for your warm support.

私たちの大切な友人,佐野哲哉さんが2009年に「脂肪肉腫」と診断され、その後2020年に再発し日本にて手術するも2022年9月に再再発の診断となり、2023年5月にシアトルにて手術を行いましたが、同年9月に再々再発・・・・現在このような過酷な病気と闘っています。ご存じの方も多くいらっしゃると思いますが佐野さんのはとても前向き、芯が強く勇敢であり私はシアトル珠算塾でお仕事を共にさせていく中で佐野さんの病との戦い、しかしながらそれをも凌ぐ仕事、教育、そして人生への情熱を目の当たりにしてまいりました。今回は日本での治療を決めしばらく日本滞在になるということで、彼の大好きなコーヒー焙煎の仕事も一時休業せざるを得ないことになりました。

脂肪肉腫とは悪性軟部腫瘍の1つで、脂肪組織から悪性の腫瘍が生じる病気。悪性軟部腫瘍自体は年間罹患率が１０万人に６人未満という非常にまれながん（希少がん）です。この厳しい状況において、この度彼をサポートするためにこのGoFundMeを立ちあげようと思います。医療費や治療にかかる経済的な負担は膨大で、私たちの手助けが必要だと思います。そこで、皆さまの温かいご支援をお願い申し上げます。
