Help Terry Overcome Spinal Cord Injury

I am reaching out because my husband Terry Callahan has suffered a catastrophic accident. For those of you that know Terry, know he is a hard worker and is never afraid of a challenge. He is a Vietnam Vet, and in the PIL Hall of Fame! He has had a long career in the Footwear Industry and is a LOVED father, husband, brother, friend, and just a good person. Terry’s recovery started with a very long, delicate and difficult surgery, he was then diagnosed with an incomplete spinal cord injury, resulting in paralysis. This is a devastating diagnosis. He spent 10 weeks between the ICU, the Trauma Center and Inpatient Rehab then continued with Outpatient Rehab. It has been a very long road but with a lot of hard work, Terry was on the fast track to recovery. His surgeon called his progress remarkable and his physical therapist said he will walk again.

But, he started experiencing debilitating back pain and could no longer continue physical therapy. This caused a drastic decline in his recovery, where he was standing and taking steps, he regressed to almost total use of his wheelchair as the back pain is too great. After going to many doctors, surgeons, pain management and physical therapists, we still cannot find enough relief for Terry to continue to stand/walk without pain. We are heartbroken when he was doing so well, but we aren’t giving up. There is hope! In spite of this setback Terry continues to work hard and still make progress. However, we are also looking at new therapies like regenerative medicine and spinal cord stimulation that can help Terry reach his potential and ease back pain.

Terry’s injury has greatly impacted every aspect of our lives. We continue to remain optimistic but we are now in need of some help. Medical bills, inflation, living expenses,and never ending medical equipment, that is crucial for Terry’s health and independence are mounting. Regenerative medicine and alternative therapies are expensive and are not covered by insurance.
