An Important Update
Since this fundraiser was first created, our family has endured an unimaginable tragedy.
On May 31, 2026, Terry lost his life in what was later confirmed to be a homicide. In the hours surrounding his death, additional fires occurred within our community, adding to the devastation and heartbreak our family has faced.
What began as an effort to help Terry rebuild after losing his home became something none of us could have imagined. Terry is no longer here to rebuild the life he worked so hard to create.
We want to be transparent with everyone who has supported this fundraiser. We have not used any of the funds raised through this GoFundMe so far. We have been carefully holding them while working through the aftermath of this tragedy and determining the full extent of the expenses ahead.
Although Terry is no longer here to rebuild the home he loved, his son, Darcy, is committed to carrying that work forward. The home holds a lifetime of memories and family history, and Darcy hopes to honour his father's legacy by restoring what can be saved.
The funds raised will continue to be used to help repair Terry's home and cover the many unforeseen expenses that have come with rebuilding after such a devastating loss.
Thank you for your prayers, your donations, your messages, and for sharing Terry's story. Your kindness has reminded us that community still matters, even in our darkest moments.
❤️ With gratitude,
The Izzard Family
On April 18, our family’s world changed in a heartbeat.
Terry Izzard, a native of Boylston, Guysborough County, faced a devastating house fire at his home in Monastery, Antigonish County. While part of the structure is still standing, the damage is catastrophic. A significant portion was burnt, and the rest has been gutted by smoke and thousands of gallons of water. This wasn’t just a house. It’s where Terry’s son, Darcy, grew up with his late mother, Alberta Izzard. It was a home filled with family gatherings and a lifetime of roots that can never be replaced.
A Life Built on the Land
Terry is a man of the outdoors—a skilled woodsman who has spent his life cutting lumber in the Nova Scotia woods. When he wasn't working, he was a familiar face at Draft Horse Pulls across the Atlantic Provinces. He has always used his hands and his strength to help others.
Today, Terry needs our community to be his strength.
The Reality of the Loss
Because Terry did not have insurance, he is facing this disaster with no safety net:
The Home: Currently unlivable. We are in a race to save the "standing" portion before water damage takes the rest.
His Livelihood: Terry lost his essential woodsman tools—the very things he needs to get back to work.
The Essentials: He walked away with only the clothes on his back. His wardrobe and precious family mementos are gone.
How Your Support Helps
We have set a goal of $30,000 to help Terry reclaim his life. Funds will go toward:
- Emergency Restoration: Stripping the house to the studs to save the structure.
- Replacing Tools: Getting Terry back to the work that defines him.
- Daily Essentials: Securing temporary housing, food, and clothing.
How You Can Help
Whether you know Terry from the woods, the horse pulls, or as a friend from Guysborough or Antigonish County, your kindness is the only way forward.
- Donate: No amount is too small.
- Share: Please share this page. Spreading the word is a powerful act of support.
Thank you for showing Terry the same "Atlantic strong" kindness he has shown so many others.
❤️ With gratitude,
The Izzard Family
