I am sharing this heartbreaking story with you today because we need your help. While on vacation in Austin, Texas for a birthday celebration Terry McMaster, husband of Mittie, father of Aaron and Jason (Jodi), grandfather to Blayne and Ryan, brother to Karen, Linda and Michael, cousin of many, and friend to countless others, suffered an extremely serious spinal cord injury due to a fall, and with nothing to grab on to or anything to break his fall, he went headfirst into the wall of the garage. From that moment on he could not move any part of his body. As you can imagine, it quickly turned into chaos with our family and friends rushing around to do everything they could while we waited for the paramedics, the firefighters and then, life flight. Yes, life flight. The hospital ride was an hour and 20 minutes, but life flight could get him there in only 8 minutes. Time was something we could not waste. 

After he was life flighted to the hospital, he underwent an emergency posterior c3-c6 spinal fusion, followed by another surgery. After surgery he has some feeling in his legs, chest, and left arm but minimal mobility. I am sure you can only imagine how scary this must be for him and for his loving wife Mittie. Even with the excellent care he has already received, the doctors are telling us that the recovery process will involve multiple years of extensive rehabilitation. However, with God on our side and your support, we all have faith he will make a full recovery.

As you know, the recovery process is much easier when your family and friends can visit you often and offer support daily, which, in turn, can lift your spirits and speed up your recovery process. However, this is not the case for Mittie and Terry. Mittie being the loving, supportive wife that she is, you know, will be there every step of the way for Terry. Doctors are unable to give them a definitive timeline as to the length of his recovery in Texas before he can be flown home to continue his rehabilitation in Michigan. This means that she will be living in Texas for the unforeseeable future to be with her husband. Currently she is living in a hotel but is in search of a more permanent place to stay close to the hospital. 

As I am sure you can understand, there have already been numerous expenses for Terry’s care in Texas, coupled with, eventually getting him home via Med Flight, medical expenses not covered by insurance, and home modifications will be quite a financial burden. However, with your support, we are hopeful to raise money to help the people we love so much. Your support will also help get Terry and Mittie through these difficult times with slightly less stress and anxiety.
