Help Terrie with medical expenses
Donation protected
On September 29th, Terrie Tudor was behind an accident involving a truck carrying 7000 gallons of anhydrous ammonia. The tank ruptured as a result of it hitting a parked utility trailer, causing 4500 gallons of the chemical to leak into the night air. It is believed that Terrie left her vehicle in an attempt to help the driver of the truck. In an accident that took five lives, Terrie survived and was airlifted to Springfield and then Rockford, with chemical burns to her mouth, throat, lungs, and eyes, and leaving her on life support.
Terrie's recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. After spending about three weeks in Rockford, she was transferred by ambulance to a specialty hospital in Hinsdale, where she was weaned from the ventilator. On December 2nd, Terrie was sent home and will continue to receive home health services for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, Terrie has lost her sight as a result of the accident. She will be seeing an opthamologist at Washington University in St. Louis in hopes of care that will result in getting her sight back. Much of that care will likely not be covered by her insurance.
Terrie has spent her entire life helping others. She touched thousands of students' lives through her role as an elementary and then middle school teacher in Wheaton, not to mention the influence she had on so many students through years of directing middle school plays and musicals. She was an advocate for hundreds of thousands of teachers and students across the country through her leadership roles within the Illinois Education Association. Additionally, Terrie donated a kidney to one of her sisters. After the deaths of her other sister, brother-in-law, and a niece, Terrie has played a huge role in the lives of her two great-nieces. Further, Terrie has been the primary caregiver for her elderly mother, who is currently living with her. All of this is in addition to the countless other ways she has given to her family and friends.
Now, it's our turn to give back to Terrie. The medical bills are starting to come in. The airlifts and ambulance transfer alone have cost her tens of thousands of dollars. One of her great-nieces will be moving in with Terrie and her mom to help with the day-to-day tasks and care-giving that Terrie would normally have been able to do herself. In order to do so, the niece will need to break her portion of the lease she shares with a roommate. Any amount that you can contribute to help with these expenses will be greatly appreciated.
Terrie is eternally grateful for all of the cards, notes, flowers, gifts, thoughts, prayers, and the immeasurable other ways that you have shown her your love. Please continue to keep Terrie and her family in your thoughts and prayers as she continues to recover and get stronger from the injuries she sustained in this tragic accident.
