Help Terrica Recover From a Bad Car Accident
Hi, my name is Leslie Abbey and my daughter is Terrica Pinney. On May 31st, 2021, she was rear-ended while going 65 m.p.h. on the expressway coming home from work. She lost control of her car, spun out and crashed head-on into a concrete divider. Her airbags and seatbelt surely saved her life. Her body was filled with adrenoline. She quickly got out of her car to see that it had been totalled. The other driver was long gone. An ambulance came, but all she could think of was the cost. So, she denied it.
Waking up the morning after, it was clear that she should have gone to the hospital. As it turns out, her ankle was crushed and she was bruised from head to toe. Her friend got her to a hospital and it was determined she would need surgery. This involved internal plates and external temporary rods.
After 5 days in the hospital after surgery, it seemed the hospital was bound and determined to release her despite the fact that she could not yet maneuver to get to the bathroom, let alone get up her three story walk up that she calls home. It would seem that one's length of stay at a hospital is solely determined by the amount of insurance one has, not based on the length of time it takes to recover.
A friend with a garden apartment took her on, thankfully. But the hospital released her late on a Sunday evening with no pain medication and no way to get relief since the pharmacy was not open. That finally got resolved. Terrica was resilient and learned how to bathe and scoot with a walker to get to and from the bathroom.
She's now faced with the need for skin grafts as all the swelling basically split her skin and her flesh is an open wound all around her ankle. She is also facing a number of hospital bills, doctor bills, and future needs for occupational therapists and physical therapists, let alone the loss of income for at least the next 2 to 5 months.
As a server in the restaurant business, she was just getting back on her feet (no pun intended) after COVID hit, and now she's knocked back down again. These bills are causing great stress and adds to the anxiety of the situation.
We are all hoping that Terrica will come through this. She's been through a lot and has withstood so much already in life. We trust you'll consider contributing to the payment of her bills and we would be so honored if all you did were to pray for her healing: physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Thank you!
