Help Terri and her family rebuild after a devastating fire
Donation protected
Hello, I am writing this on behalf of a good friend who would never have imagined that her young family would suddenly become a good cause. Whilst we will be forever grateful that everyone escaped the fire with no physical harm, the psychological trauma of watching your family home and all your belongings burn cannot be underestimated.
Thankfully a loud noise disturbed Kath (nanna) who had not long gone to bed. A noise loud enough that she went downstairs to investigate, whilst her three small grandchildren remained asleep in bed, oblivious to the danger beneath them. The actions of quick thinking neighbours rescued them all, (including the dog) before the fire ravaged through the property, destroying it within minutes. Melted bikes and patio furniture in the garden, smashed windows and damage to the neighbours conservatory testified to the heat of the fire. Only fire services could access the property until it could be made safe and it has since become clear that the house is no longer habitable and needs to be rebuilt from scratch.
Despite having both building and content insurance since 2007 a clause has been found which means that the insurance company are not willing to pay for the rebuild.
Terri is undergoing a huge rennovation project in a second property, which is currently without a roof, internal rooms, heating and furniture . As a consequence she had moved back into the home she owns together with her mum.
This has left Terri and her family not only homeless but with the stress of having to find the money to rebuild the property, furnish the property, replace the childrens uniforms, clothes and toys as well as compensate the neighbours for the damage caused.
Terri and her family are extremely grateful to all of their friends and family who have given time, clothes, food, and a place to stay but obviously this places unaccustomed strains on all concerned and the hopes are that this is short term only.
I hope that together we are able to raise some money to help cover the cost of some of the essentials that were lost to the fire and to provide Terri and her family with enough to recoup the money spent not being able to cook. Any donation will massively help.
Always one to reflect and help others Terri wants everyone to learn from her experience. She urges everyone to shut internal doors, as she is told by the fire brigade it was this action that bought time, allowing her family to escape, and to always read the small print that comes with any insurance policy.
Thankyou all so much
