Help Teri Rally Against Cancer
This is my beautiful mother Teri and this is her Cancer story, in my words. My Mother Teri is an amazing woman. She raised me as a single mother and never once asked for help! She's not even asking for help now, I am. I am determined to help my mother Teri win her battle and kick Cancer's butt!! She is fighting for her life and she is determined to beat the Cancer that has invaded her body!
Just before Christmas last year, our lives were forever changed. My mom , Teri, developed a horrible pain in her side. She tried to tough it out, being the strong woman she is, but by the 3rd day of her being in pain we knew something wasn't right.
To know my mother is to love her, for she is stubborn and strong willed and determined so getting her to admit she needs help is a bit of a monumental task. I demanded she go and be seen by a doctor and I drove her to the local Urgent Care Clinic in town. The Urgent Care Clinic suspected it was a gallbladder attack and sent us to the Emergency Room. After tests and scans they discovered she had 2 masses on her liver, a large mass and small mass. They couldn't tell us what it was, but scheduled more tests to find out.
After more testing it was discovered that she has 3 masses on her liver and a large mass on her colon. They did biopsies on the large liver mass and the large colon mass, and they came back Malignant. She was diagnosed with stage 4 Colorectal Cancer. It is agressive and it's known to spread quickly to the other organs in the abdomen. She started Chemotherapy treatments and the doctors came up with a plan.
Did I mention she is determined to beat this? Well, she is.
She has been doing Chemotherapy treatments for 8 weeks now. Next week she is going to have an exploratory laproscopic diagnostic procedure to see if there is any more Cancer in her abdomen. The plan after that is to do a procedure to block the blood flow to the right side of her liver to kill the tumor on that side. Then the doctors will monitor her liver over the following weeks looking for new growth so that they can do the procedure again to block the blood flow to the left side of her liver. Its the same process, to kill the tumors so that they can then surgically remove all of the tumors on her liver. Over the next few months we will wait for the tumors to die and then she will have the surgery to remove the Cancer from her liver. When she has recovered from that surgery, she will have the surgery to remove the tumor on her colon, best estimates are between 6 to 12 weeks time. This is a long process and she will be continuing her Chemotherapy treatments throughout this process to ensure that the Cancer doesn't spread any further.
We have been doing everything we can to ensure we fight this disease both physically and mentally with all of our hearts and we pray for the best.
I've set this page up to help with the cost of her chemotherapy treatments, radiation, surgical procedures, travel expenses to Dr appointments, hospital visits, tests and imaging appointments, unpaid time off of work, and prescription costs. Insurance doesn't cover everything and fighting Cancer is expensive.
Short term disability unfortunately does not provide full pay so through all of this she is still working full time. With added medical expenses that are not covered by insurance and with the everyday necessities of life, money is getting tighter and tighter.
My mother Teri is one of the strongest, most selfless people I have ever known and is always there to give her love, support, or the shirt off her back to anyone that needs it.
Anything you can donate will be truly appreciated. Everything we can do to help and surround her with love is what is most important so she can focus on beating this thing. Please spread the word. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
