My name is Terese. I experience frequent migraines that affect my ability to walk, cause vertigo, confusion, and sometimes mimic stroke symptoms. These episodes make daily life challenging and unpredictable. When a migraine strikes, I can lose my sense of where I am, walk into objects, or even become unable to speak or feel my arms. The unpredictability of these attacks has made it difficult to feel safe and independent in my daily life.

My previous service dog was retired two years ago and it has been difficult managing my condition without her. I am planning to get another dog and begin training as soon as I can afford it. This dog would be trained to help me in many ways that my old dog did, as well as in some ways that she could not. The dog could provide gentle forward momentum to guide me when I have trouble walking, help ground me during vertigo spells by leaning on me or resting its head on my lap, and retrieve important items like medication or water. Most importantly, the dog would be trained to alert me to oncoming migraines, giving me a chance to manage my condition more effectively. The dog could also guide me to safety or help me find a place to sit. The funds raised will go directly toward the upfront cost of the puppy, training, and equipment like harnesses, vests, and other essentials.

I first became involved with the service dog community by helping a friend train her cardiac and mobility dog. Seeing the positive change in her life made me realize how much I could benefit from having a working partner myself. After having my last dog with me for several years and living the last few without her by my side, I have come to understand just how much a service dog contributes to my independence. With your support, I hope to regain control over my condition and live my life more fully. Your help would mean the world to me, providing not just support during difficult times, but also hope for a more independent future.
