My name is Briana, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my mother, Teresa, who has been battling life-altering medical conditions.
We are seeking donations to help ease the financial burden of her medical expenses, moving costs, and ongoing care needs. I know the world will return the generosity she has shown others throughout her life.
After experiencing months of symptoms involving seizures, speech and language changes, weakness, and headaches, we received the diagnosis that my mother has an anaplastic oligodendroglioma (a rare brain tumor) in her temporal lobe. She underwent surgery to remove as much of the brain tumor as possible in February 2023, and since then, has undergone chemotherapy and Temozolomide with radiation therapy as additional treatment. Despite the nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and fatigue, she maintains hope and the strength to keep fighting.
Everyone knows my mother as extremely kind-hearted and generous. Before retiring on disability, my mom was a beloved USPS worker, appreciated by many in the San Leandro community. She has decades-long friendships, with years of memories of shopping outings, late-night dancing, and concerts to her favorite oldies and pop artists. She’s been a thoughtful sister and aunt, always marking special occasions with a card and gift. She is very close with her mom, enjoying the simple pleasures of life like treasure hunting at second-hand stores or sharing manicure pampering. Her greatest joy has been becoming a grandmother to my son, Maceo, who she absolutely adores and surrounds her home with pictures of.
Although she was trying her best to keep an independent lifestyle, things changed three weeks ago when she fell coming home from a funeral. Since then she has been in a rehab care facility working to regain her ability to walk confidently and complete her daily executive functions. She required several emergency trips to the hospital via ambulance that are not covered by insurance.
She will now require 24/7 care and cannot return to her second-story level apartment for safety concerns. Upon release from the care center, she will be moving into an assisted living community that can provide the level of care needed to recover and return to her former abilities before the fall. She will also continue her cancer treatments when she is able to do so.
I want to thank friends and family who have supported my mom during these challenges. Your presence has made a big difference in her life! ❤️
