Help Teresa with Her Medical Journey and Expenses

Our friend, Teresa Bennett Barberry, has spent the last two years battling some serious health emergencies. Shortly after moving from her hometown to Pennsylvania, she woke up in the local emergency room having no idea how she ended up there. The medical staff informed her that she had experienced a Tonic Clonic (Grand Mal) seizure as the result of extremely low blood sugar, so low that they couldn’t even get an accurate reading. The nurse said that they didn’t think she was ever going to open her eyes.

Three months later, on March 20, 2024, Teresa was walking in her back door, tripped, and fell forward, striking her forehead on the threshold of the door. The fall forced her head backward and broke her neck at the cervical vertebrae level. She was transported to a shock trauma hospital an hour away in York, PA, with the EMT holding her head the whole way to prevent damage to her spinal cord. The surgeon told her that she would probably not survive the surgery; survival rate for this type of surgery is around 12%. He said if she survived, she could possibly emerge from surgery as a paraplegic or quadriplegic. The doctor also informed her that the recovery period would be 6-9 months. Teresa came out of that surgery with no paralysis and completed the rehabilitation in 3 months. If you know Teresa and the strong faith that lives in this woman, you’re not surprised.

In May 2025, she began experiencing shortness of breath and felt a terrible pressure in her chest. She was originally misdiagnosed with congestive heart failure. A second opinion from another cardiologist indicated a 100% blockage in the right coronary artery and a 70% blockage in another artery. Teresa was on the verge of a major heart attack. The cardiologist referred her for an angioplasty, and a stent was inserted. The shortness of breath and chest pressure disappeared.

An abnormality appeared in a routine mammogram in August. A biopsy revealed an aggressive and invasive form of breast cancer: Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC). After much research on treatment options and consultations with medical professionals, Teresa decided that her best course of treatment would be at the Penn State Medical Center in Hershey, PA. This will require her to drive an hour each way for nearly a month, creating an expense burden paying for gas. As the situation continues to evolve, Teresa is currently in the hospital with more challenging medical complications.

Teresa’s friends are asking for any small donation to help lessen this financial burden for her as she battles her fourth catastrophic health emergency in two years. Any amount is appreciated. If you are not able to donate, we ask that you consider sharing this fund on any or all of your social media accounts to help us get the word out for Teresa.
