Help Teresa Heal After Severe Accident

Hello.

My name is Lisette, and I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister, father, and most importantly, my mother.

For those who haven't heard, my mother, Teresa, was involved in a major traffic accident while she, a pedestrian, was crossing the street near N Mango Ave and W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60639. Trying to avoid traffic, the motorist hit my mother, causing her major injuries.

Thankfully due to the many witnesses, my mother was quickly transferred to the ER of Mount Sinai Hospital. There, we discovered that she experienced multiple fractures. What is known is that she experienced fractures to her neck and spine. She also has a broken pelvis, a broken femur, leg, a broken shoulder blade, arm, ribs, as well as a collapsed lung. Other external injuries throughout her body include cuts, swelling and bruising.

At Mount Sinai, she required multiple blood transfusions to stabilize her and the internal bleeding.

Due to her injuries, she was later transferred to UChicago Medicine (UChicago Medicine Center for Care and Discovery Hyde Park), where she has since been on a ventilator, sedated, and under intense care.

On 09/01/2025, she underwent her first pelvic surgery. She is expected to receive an additional supporting surgery to her spine and lumbar 4 within the next days or so. Additional surgeries will follow, including to her femur, leg, shoulder and shoulder blade; others which are pending.

The road to recovery will be very long. Like many of us who live pay check to pay check, my family has no means to support or supplement their income as hospital and legal bills quickly pile up. There are also concerns for transportation as well.

It is our greatest hope that the generosity of our community can help my family through this dark time. We ask that those who are able to donate to this cause donate only what you can comfortably afford, and if you cannot assist financially, that you please share this post.
