Hello, I’m Dawson West. I’m making this on behalf of my mother Tera West. I’ll start off with a little get to know her for those who stumble across this. My mom 10 years ago at the age 34 was diagnosed with breast cancer, we were all very confused, sad, and in shock. She eventually tested positive for a rare cancer gene called BRCA-2. A hereditary cancer gene that laid dormant until it attacked her breast tissue. She went through a very long and tough treatment, a double mastectomy, hysterectomy, chemo, and radiation. She ended up having to move in with my grandparents because she had 2 teens and a 8 year old living at home and needed to be taken care of. She went through all of that at 34 years old, after all of the hardships she faced and issues that came with it she beat cancer and went into full remission. We all cried with joy when we found out, my mom after everything that happened still was her same old self but looked at life with a new perspective. In the 10 years she has bought a house, watched all her kids graduate, 2 of them working great jobs and one going to college this month, became a grandma to a little boy, and moved up in her job with tremendous strides. She has always put everyone before her, but now she needs our help. On 07/24/2025 she had found out her cancer was back and very aggressive, it had spread to her spine, ribs, pelvis, and left shoulder. She has been put on strict orders while she is receiving treatments, she has clinical trials in a couple weeks at northwestern in Chicago to help ease some of the pain she’s going through, the bones in her spine are very brittle and can break if she’s lifting too much or over exerting. The worst part of all of this is this cancer cannot be cured but it can be treated. Treatments are where people get financially ruined with cancer, I’m just trying to get my mom some help and take some of the financial load off her so all she has to worry about is just feeling better so she can spend time her her grandson (her favorite person in the world right now) and as well as her family.

UPDATE: After multiple tests and biopsies it’s been determined that my mom’s bone cancer is a metastasis from her original breast cancer diagnosis in 2015. Not only is it in majority of her bones and spine, it’s in her skull and lining of her brain but still no sign of it in her organs and brain and for that we are grateful. She met with an oncologist at Northwestern last week and they discussed clinical trials with her however she would have to wait 30 days to start chemo and we’d rather get chemo started right away. She just finished 10 rounds of radiation which targeted the tumors on her spine and hips and gave her some relief. She meets with Northwestern again next week to discuss traditional chemo plans which can be done close to home and hopefully start asap. She’s been accepted to MD Anderson in Houston as well and she still plans to talk to them about treatment options to ensure she’s getting the best care and treatment possible. We can’t thank you all enough for the love you’ve shown my mom whether it’s been through cards, gifts, donations, texts, calls and most importantly prayers. She NEEDS all the prayers she can get. We need her in our lives for many many more years.
