Hello from Sweden – Helping a Friend Carry On His Mother’s Legacy

Hi, my name is Eva Nylander, and I live in Sweden. I’m starting this fundraiser to support my friend Tendai Chazima in Malawi as he works to continue his late mother’s life’s work – a small baobab drink business that is at risk of disappearing after her passing.

Because GoFundMe is not available in Malawi, all donations will first come to me in Sweden. I will then transfer them directly to Tendai through secure, traceable payment methods. I’ll also provide updates and receipts so you can see exactly how your support is being used.

I met Tendai four years ago when he attended Ethno Sweden, a music camp for young folk and world musicians. Since his mother’s sudden passing in March 2025, he has faced the challenges of both grief and supporting himself. Now, he wants to carry on her small business, and this fundraiser is my way of helping him make that possible.

A little about baobab: Baobab is a nutrient-rich fruit from the iconic African baobab tree. It naturally dries on the tree and has a tangy flavor reminiscent of lemon and pear.

Tendai’s Story

Hello everyone,

My name is Tendai Chazima, and I’m the founder of Tebu Baobab Ice-Cream & Beverages — a proudly Malawian brand born from my late mother’s hands and heart.

My mother started making baobab juice many years ago. It was her way to feed us, send us to school, and keep our family smiling through hard times. She taught me everything: how to prepare the fruit, how to mix it with care, and most importantly, how to put love into every bottle.

Sadly, she passed away seven months ago. For a long time, I couldn’t even come near the things she used — they reminded me too much of her. But with time, I realized that this business isn’t just hers anymore — it’s our family’s legacy.

Now, every time I make baobab juice, I feel connected to her spirit. I want to honor her memory by turning her small idea into something greater — a brand that continues to bring hope, support local farmers, and showcase the beauty of Malawi’s natural baobab fruit.

That’s why I’m raising €5,000 to help grow and strengthen this dream.

A few words on transparency & accountability

All funds are managed separately from my (Eva's) personal accounts. Transfers to Tendai are made via secure and traceable methods. Tendai provides regular updates with photos/videos showing how funds are used.
