Support A Loving Family Caring For Two Homeless Teens

A few years ago, a compassionate local couple opened their hearts and home to two teen boys who had been abandoned by their substance-abusing and violent parents and who were living in an old car. These remarkable kids had endured unimaginable trauma and were struggling with PTSD. However, since becoming a part of this loving family, the boys have made incredible progress and are thriving in their new home!

Thanks to the generosity of kind-hearted people in our community, funds were raised a few years ago to support the teens. The parents, who are court-appointed guardians, have gone above and beyond to ensure these teens can have opportunities, support and the care they need and deserve. They purchased furniture, clothing, school supplies, and extra groceries. They also created a separate bedroom for one of the boys by dividing their living room in half. However, despite their best efforts, the family still faces financial challenges supporting the boys as they grow older.

Because the brothers endured neglect and unimaginable abuse throughout their childhoods, they still require ongoing support. The boys’ mother died last year in a hit-and-run accident, and their father struggles with substance abuse and has very little contact with them. Other relatives are completely absent.

While this local couple can provide for their basic needs, they struggle to afford extras, including recreational activities, birthday celebrations and holiday gifts. The parents' biological children are now in college, and this couple continues to selflessly devote their lives to caring for these teens. One of these guardians is a cancer survivor and lives with a significant disability, which limits employment options. Despite this, the couple is determined to do everything they can to give these boys the bright and hopeful future they deserve, which may also include paying for their post-high school education or a vocational/trade school.
