Ellie is a teenager who has been struggling with anorexia for quite some time. Despite over a year in outpatient treatment, she was becoming more entrenched in the illness every day. At the end of December, her mother reached out to me, desperate for anything that could help her daughter. As a provider of in-home support and coaching for eating disorders, I felt strongly that my team could make a difference for Ellie.
We began working with Ellie in January, implementing a care model that started with 12 hours a day, 7 days a week of support from our trained coaches. The plan is to gradually step down the intensity as she progresses through recovery. Ellie is now beginning to engage in the recovery process and is making forward steps every day. However, this level of care comes at a significant cost. The financial burden is taking a heavy toll on her family.
Unfortunately, Ellie story is not unique. Over the past year, I have seen many families reach out in desperation, hoping to find a solution for their loved ones. There are multiple teens and families who need this service but simply cannot afford it. My team at RAH is fully committed to helping as many people as possible access the care they need. That’s why I am starting this fundraiser—to help families, including Ellie’s, afford the treatment that is giving Ellie and others a real chance at recovery. Your support can make a life-changing difference for these teens and their loved ones.
