On January 17th my niece, Kawekiu "Tee" was not feeling well and she decided to sleep in the guest bedroom. What she thought was a simple cold, was not. Her wife, Jessica woke up to find Tee convulsing on the floor. She was unresponsive and suffering one seizure after another. Tee was rushed to the ER and has been in the ICU at Queen's Medical Center ever since. Her seizures were so intense and frequent that her doctors decided that the best way stop them was to intubate her and put her in a drug induced coma. While in the coma her doctors ran a barrage of tests, hooked her up to an EEG machine, ordered MRI scans, X-Rays and ultrasounds and spinal taps, etc. Tee has endured several blood plasma transfusions and fighting pneumonia. She had surgery while in the coma in order to remove an ovary and both tubes for a suspected teratoma (a fibroid than can cause seizures.). However, there are no conclusive answers, and more tests and procedures are still to be done. The team of neurologists along with the Mayo Clinic team are still trying to determine the cause of the seizures, and Tee remains in the ICU with a long road ahead.

Tee won't be able to work for sometime, or be allowed to operate a motor vehicle. Her wife, Jessica is also unable to work while caring for Tee, her medical condition and their two small children ages three and five.

UPDATE: Tee is out of ICU and beginning the long road to recovery and intensive regimen of physical therapy!! Tests still to be done and no definitive diagnosis as of this time... thank you for the continued support
