Hi everyone,
I’m setting this fundraiser up for my friend, Hayley, and her son Ted.
We are hoping to raise £1,500 to purchase a NightWatch seizure monitor that will alert Hayley if Ted has a seizure during the night and also cover the Go Fund Me platform fees.
Ted, who has just turned 14, was recently diagnosed with epilepsy after suddenly experiencing multiple tonic-clonic seizures since November. One of these seizures happened outside of his school and resulted in a skull fracture.
Since then, Ted’s medical team have been working hard to try and bring the seizures under control, but it’s still early days. Watching your child go through something like that is terrifying for any parent, and Hayley has been facing this largely on her own as a single mum.
One of the scariest parts of epilepsy is that seizures can happen during sleep. When someone has a seizure at night they are often alone and unable to call for help, which means parents can miss the early signs that their child is in danger.
That means every night Hayley goes to bed with the fear that Ted could have a seizure and she might not know in time to help him.
One recently happened at 4am, and by pure chance Hayley was awake and able to get to him quickly.
To help keep Ted safe at night going forward, we’re trying to raise money for a NightWatch seizure monitor.
This is a specialised device worn during sleep that detects the physical signs of dangerous seizures and alerts a parent immediately so they can respond quickly.
Devices like this can make a critical difference for families living with epilepsy, especially when seizures happen during sleep.
These monitors are very reliable but also expensive, and unfortunately they are not funded through the NHS.
Hayley is doing everything she can to keep Ted safe and give him the chance to live as normal a life as possible despite his diagnosis.
We’re hoping to raise enough to purchase the NightWatch monitor so Ted can sleep more safely, and so Hayley can have some peace of mind knowing she’ll be alerted if he needs her during the night.
If you’re able to donate, even a small amount, it would mean the world to them. And if you can’t donate, sharing the fundraiser would help just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read Ted’s story and for supporting them. ❤️
