Our family is asking for help to get my husband, Ted, to Oakland, California, to be with his biological father, Henry Williams Sr., during the final days of his life.

Henry is 91 years old and battling Stage 4 prostate cancer. He was recently moved from the hospital to a rehabilitation center, and the reality of how little time may remain has become heartbreakingly clear. When his granddaughter recently told him, “I’ll see you soon,” Henry gently responded, “I’ll see you in heaven.”

Ted only met his biological father after the passing of his mother a little over three years ago through Ancestry.com, something his daughter started before she passed away from COVID. After a lifetime apart, they finally had the opportunity to begin building a relationship — sharing conversations, family history, and precious moments that can never be replaced. Now Ted is desperate to get to Oakland before he loses the chance to say goodbye in person.

Like many families, we are doing everything we can financially, but life has been difficult. I have been out of work recovering medically, and while Ted works a full 4-10 schedule and picks up part-time work on weekends whenever possible, our resources are stretched beyond capacity just trying to keep our household afloat.

We are hoping to raise enough to help cover:

Transportation to Oakland

A safe place for Ted to stay for approximately 4 days

Food and transportation while there

Emergency travel-related expenses

This trip is not about a vacation. It is about giving a son the chance to sit beside his father, hear his voice again, hold his hand, and say the things that matter before time runs out.
