Help Ted get a communication device
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Emma, Teds Mummy. We are fundraising to get Ted a communication device. Ted was born with a rare genetic condition called Smith-Magenis Syndrome. One of the main features of his syndrome is the difficulty he faces to communicate and then negative behaviours arising from the frustration. We’ve been working closely with behaviourists and the speech and language team for well over a year now. Speech and language insisted that we trial a paper version of a communication book before they could refer for a communication device (or AAC). They have decided that because he’s done so well with the paper communication book he doesn’t need an AAC. The behaviourists and us as parents are boggled by this. Having the communication book has made huge improvements for Ted, it’s reduced his frustrations and outbursts. He can finally let us know what he wants, needs, and how he is feeling. The only issue is it’s cumbersome and not always easy to access. Ted is a whizz on the iPad, and the software can be bought by a general member of the public for a one off fee.
Our starting goal of £249 will be enough to buy the Proloquo2go software that he needs on his iPad. Any further funds will be used to buy a mounting arm for his wheelchair and protective case.
We are incredibly grateful for any donations that you can afford, this software will make such a huge difference for Ted and us.
