This gofundme is set up in support of my Dad, Ted Tester - love, Kimberly Guss
Early Sunday morning on October 21st, 2018 - Ted woke up and was in a great mood - then - he grabbed his head with both hands and described what felt like "an explosion" in his head - next, the worst headache he had ever experienced. My Mom called 911 and he was taken to Lexington Medical Center's Emergency Department via EMS. CT scans were performed and he was given a diagnosis of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage caused from a ruptured aneurysm. A Subaranoid Hemorrhage (SAH) is a life-threatening type of stroke caused by bleeding into the subarachnoid space surrounding the brain (50% of patients with SAH die before reaching the hospital). Of those who reach the hospital: One-third of will survive with good recovery, one-third will survive with a disability, and one-third will survive with severe brain damage or will die. After Lexington Medical Center ED confirmed the diagnosis, Ted was transferred by a Critical Care Ambulance to Palmetto Richland's Neuroscience ICU for more extensive and specialized treatment. The neurosurgeon told us his aneurysm was in a very difficult location and the best endovascular surgical approach would be to place 2 pipeline stents into the dissecting vertebral artery. The surgery was performed early the next morning and was a success. Ted has since been recovering in the ICU now for over 50 days, and has overcome multiple complications and challenges.
We are now moving on to the next step in our journey. Ted is going to be transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia for continuing ICU care and specialty stroke rehabilitation treatment. We are elated that Ted has been given this phenomenal opportunity to receive the best, most specialized care from a facility recognized as being in the top 10 rehabilitation hospitals for brain injury in the nation!
We know the power of our Almighty Christ has given Ted the strength to endure this demanding endeavor and it is a Miracle he is still here with us today. We are truly gracious God continues to heal Ted each and every day. We are so very thankful and appreciative of all the continuing prayers from all of Team Ted!
We will graciously accept and appreciate any donations given for Ted's specialized treatments; to help cover costs for caregivers for our special need's son Colin; to help cover costs for caregiver assistance for Ted and special equipment he may need once he is able to return home.
God Bless You All & Thank you so much!
