Help Team Space Explorers Reach Globals!

We need your help to get our team to Destination Imagination Globals competition in Kansas City May 22-25!!

Our team, Team Space Explorers!, placed first at the regional competition comprised of teams across North Carolina, which gives us the opportunity to compete with teams from all around the world!! But we need your help to get there! Please take a quick minute to read our story.

What is Destination Imagination? DI is a student-led, creative problem-solving competition where a team of up to 7 members works within a tight budget determined by DI to find an outside-the-box solution to a problem. If you have heard of Odyssey of the Mind, this is a similar organization.

DI is an amazing program that has shown the kids teamwork, creativity, perseverance and success through the art of failure and problem solving.

Our team researched planets from other solar systems and using this research created a hilarious 8 minute skit about encounters between fictional beings that inhabit these planets. They developed some technobabble terms to use in their skit and built a set out of cardboard and other packaging materials.

In addition to this our team competed in an instant challenge where each team was given a problem and a set amount of time to complete the task. Our team worked together and came in first in this part of the competition, besting middle and high school teams.

Our team includes seven fourth and fifth graders from Villa Heights Elementary School (a Title I school in CMS).

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

CMS is paying for some of our costs (flight, hotel, and registration), however we want to ensure that all of the kids have an equal chance to participate in the tournament. To that end we are hoping to cover food costs, costs associated with sending an extra chaperone, shipping of our sets, and an excursion for the kids. This is a unique opportunity for the kids from our small neighborhood school and we want to make the most of it.
