As many of you now know I was diagnosed with triple negative stage 2 Breast Cancer on October 30th of 2017. Six short days after having open shoulder surgery. Triple negative Breast Cancer is a very aggressive rapid growing type of Breast Cancer that does not have any targeted or hormonal treatment options. Its aggressiveness and high likelihood of recurrence limits treatment options to chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation.
That day is still a blur for me. I was in shock the whole week with losing my job of 4 years a few weeks before I only had heath insurance for the next 2 days. The race was now on to find a doctor and hopefully get some tests done. Finding out my cancer had doubled in size in the short time it took to get the test results back was devastating. Feeling so helpless as it grew inside my body. Wondering if it had spread? Finding out I am a BRCA 2 gene carrier which is the cause of not only Breast Cancer, but also Ovarian, Melanoma, and Pancreatic Cancers. So many decisions to be made on the advice of my team of doctors. Wondering how I could afford it all and my COBRA insurance premiums knowing how expensive chemotherapy is and the long term debilitating side effects of it. The lack of rest from having no choice but to go to work because I have to take care of my two girls even though I was getting sicker by the day.
The emotional and financial stress has been overwhelming from losing my hair, to the sickness and nausea, to the pain to walk or sit. After almost 7 months of chemotherapy I am getting ready for my first of 2 surgeries this week. To relieve some of the financial stress my girls and I need your help with existing chemotherapy expenses, my upcoming double mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, radiation treatment, continued medical expenses, and 6-10 weeks of lost wages while I am recovering. I am a very proud mom who needs your love and support now more than ever! My girls are my whole world!
