Hi everyone — I’m sharing this on behalf of my daughter Taylor and her family, who were suddenly displaced from their rental home due to repeated sewage backups and unsafe living conditions.
Between late December and early January, their apartment experienced multiple plumbing failures, including sewage backing up into the bathtub and toilets. On January 5th, the situation escalated when sewage entered multiple bedrooms — including the girls’ bedroom and Taylor and Jimmy’s bedroom — creating a serious health hazard throughout the unit.
The family had recently moved and still had many of their belongings packed in boxes. Those items were contaminated by sewage and lost. Unfortunately, they did not have renters insurance at the time — a painful but common lesson for a young family — which means these losses are not covered and must be replaced out of pocket.
Because of the health risk, Taylor, her partner, their children, and pets were forced to vacate the unit immediately and have not been able to return. Despite ongoing communication, the landlord has not provided temporary accommodations, and repairs have been slow and incomplete. The city has been contacted repeatedly, but Code Enforcement has not yet completed an inspection, leaving the family in limbo while the unit remains unsafe.
Right now, the family is displaced, staying with relatives, and facing unexpected expenses including:
• Basic living expenses during displacement
• Food and transportation
• Replacing contaminated belongings
• Costs associated with preparing to break their lease and relocate once the city inspection occurs
This situation has been especially hard on the kids, who have lost stability, routine, and personal belongings through no fault of their own.
We are raising funds to help cover basic expenses during displacement, replace essential items that were lost, and help the family regain stability while they work through the housing and legal process.
Any amount truly helps. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser means just as much.
Thank you for supporting this family during an incredibly difficult and unfair situation.
