Help Taylor -- Tumor Surgery and Diagnosis
Donation protected
“Taylor" is a much-loved 9 ½ yr old “Chiweenie” that was rescued as a pup from Puerto Rico and is a primary companion to 81 yr-old human “Linda.”
Recently, Taylor developed a skin tumor in the furry area on her side that appears to be a Melanoma — which in dogs are often benign (unless located in the nail bed or mouth). However, in addition to the tumor, Taylor’s liver enzymes are over 3x higher than normal — and rising. The Vet said that liver enzymes can elevate for many treatable reason, and that we should not rush to judgment about Taylor’s Melanoma having metastasized.
The Vet provided a treatment plan: abdominal sonogram, bile acid test, surgical removal of the tumor and a teeth cleaning that Taylor desperately needs.
The estimated diagnostic and surgical costs are $3,800.
Already spent: $800 on consultation, blood work and vaccinations.
Total cost/estimate: $4,600.
The plan is to have the sonogram and bile acid test on March 6th, and hope and pray there are no signs of metastatic disease — and that we better understand the source of the liver abnormality. Surgery will follow, and Taylor’s biopsy and teeth cleaning will get done at the same time.
If the news is not good, the funds will be used to pay for ongoing palliative care, as Taylor is still quite active, routinely zooming around the house and socializing with humans and canines alike. We hope she has several more good years ahead of her.
Taylor helps her "main human," Linda, in many ways — maintaining a good daily routine through meal prep, walking, and companionship. Linda is diabetic with chronic kidney disease. Walking is an integral part of maintaining good blood sugar levels and thus slowing progression. Taylor gives Linda incentive to take her for neighborhood strolls 2-3 times per day — giving both much joy in socializing with other humans and furry friends!
Many older folks on fixed incomes struggle to obtain vet care for their animals because it is cost prohibitive. Yet beloved pets such as Taylor have such an important role in their lives.
My dear friend Lana, and Taylor's "other human," is coordinating all of Taylor’s care. This is a “last resort” request, as there are no personal funds to pay for vet care.
Whatever amount you can contribute will be deeply appreciated!
If unable to donate, please hold Taylor “In the Light”!
