Hi, my name is Taylor, and this past year has completely changed my life and taken a devastating toll on my health.
After losing my mom young to cancer and my family being riddled with it I decided to have genetic testing done last August and found out I'm positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation. I began having preventative surgeries to lower my risk of breast and ovarian cancer, starting with 4 major pelvic surgeries.
Just days after those surgeries, doctors unexpectedly found a cancerous tumor on my kidney — a cancer not even associated with the BRCA2 gene. 4 weeks later, I had a partial nephrectomy to remove the cancer. Unfortunately, during surgery my liver was nicked, causing a severe bile leak that left me hospitalized for weeks before finally being sent home with a drain still in place. Recovery has been long, painful, and exhausting.
To make things even harder, I have an upcoming bilateral double masectomy with reconstruction soon and expect recovery to be to be a long process and am just trying to figure out how to give my family some stability during my recovery since I obviously will not be able to return to work anytime soon. My fiancé is doing everything he can — working overtime while also trying to maintain our household and care for our family — but we are struggling to keep up.
Any donations will go toward:
• Household bills and basic living expenses
• Helping our family stay stable while I continue recovering and prepare for another major surgery
• ongoing medical care and copays
This is not at all how I imagined my life would look at 33 years old. Asking for help is incredibly difficult for me, especially knowing so many others are struggling too, but if you’re able to donate or even simply share this fundraiser, it would mean more than I can express. Even the smallest amount truly helps.
Thank you for reading, supporting us, and helping our family through the hardest chapter of our lives.
