Help Taylor Overcome Chemo-Induced Dental Issues
Donation protected
Hi this Taylor's mom, Chris. Taylor had Rhabdomyosarcoma at the age of 2 as many of you know. She was fortunate enough to have beat it. Through the years she has had other issues that were caused by the chemotherapy. Since around the age of 13, we had been told that her teeth had "small roots" caused by the chemo. This clearly was an understatement and over the last year her mouth became painful, bleeding and all teeth began to loosen. She was having difficulty eating and in daily pain. She sought out several specialists, all of whom after examination, were unable to help her as the problem from chemo was actually much worse. She had no bone to even utilize dentures and was told implants may not work. Her profile and face structure were changing due to the loosening of the teeth, and she was in misery. God was on our side again and she found the only specialist in the area at UIC who specialized in cases like this. On June 3, 2024, Taylor underwent over 5 hours of surgery in which all of the remaining teeth were removed, the bottom area shaved down and CT guided implant posts strategically placed. Her gums were then structured over these posts. Because of her age, we were told that bone grafting was not an option as it wound not last. She was then fitted with temporary teeth which will remain for approximately 4 months in order to allow the gums to heal. She will only be able to consume very soft foods for that time. Even though this was caused by the chemotherapy at the age of two, insurance does not cover approximately $34,000. This was devastating for Taylor to hear, and she worries about how it will be paid. Her Nana, Dad and I have paid the initial amount required ($12,500) so that she could start the long healing process. She will need to make payments on the remaining balance. This is why we are reaching out. Our family, friends and strangers were here for Taylor when she had cancer, and I am confident that the same will apply now. If you are able to assist Taylor, it will be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small!! Thank you!!
