Help Taylor & Joe Recover from Flood
Hi, my name is Taylor Briceno & I live in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY with my roommate Joseph Famulari. We have been living in our apartment together since January 1st & have already experienced two minor floors in the past. These floods were both a result of rainfall & a malfunctioning water pump in the plumbing system of our building. Since the last one (which was less than two weeks ago), we were hoping that the pump was fixed & we would be able to weather this storm. However, the rainfall was so excessive that the entire neighborhood of Bushwick experienced major flooding. Our two previous floods both resulted in approximately 4-12 inches of water at their highest points. This time was different.
On the night of September 1st, 2021, during record-setting rainfall from Tropical Storm Ida, our basement flooded somewhere between 5-7 feet high, nearly overflowing into the second floor of our apartment. Attached are various pictures of the damage that was caused by this event - in them, you'll see that all furniture, clothing, electronics, family heirlooms & various other important personal belongings were completely decimated by the sitting mix of rain water, garbage, dirt, possibly sewage & even animal remains. The apartment is uninhabitable & we will need to relocate as soon as possible. Between the loss of countless personal items & the relocation process to move into a new place, one which we are entirely unsure of the financial feasibility, we are asking for your help, in any capacity, to ease some of the pain ahead.
To all who are generous and kind enough to help out during this frustrating & saddening time, I cannot thank you enough.
