Taylor's Kidney Transplant Journey

Donation protected
About 3 months ago my perfectly healthy son Taylor Deaton was diagnosed with Kidney Disease, he's 25 years old.

He was "healthy as an Ox" rarely drank, doesn't smoke and he just had his first baby girl, Caroline Lilly Deaton! (Now 10 months old)

It all started a few months prior with blood pressure on the high side.

We'd also noticed Taylor's face getting a little puffy, he wasn't looking well, we all noticed it.

He was always tired, and had regular horrible headaches.

On December 4th, he went to see his Doctor for some tests and then went right back home to sleep off another incredible migraine headache, a symptom of the high blood pressure he'd been experiencing.

Later that day my phone rings, its the Doctor who says "Hey Mark, is Taylor with you?"

I told him that he was not, and that I believed he was home sleeping off a migraine.

He says "I need to talk to him can you get him?"

"Sure" I say... "I'll drive over to his house right now and have him call you!"

"Can I just hold?" he asks.

That's when I knew it was serious. My heart sank.

The good Doctor stays on the phone with me while I drive 10 minutes across town to hand Taylor the phone to get the news I already knew would be bad.

I just didn't know how bad.

The Doctor said to get to the Emergency Room immediately...

"Your  kidneys are failing and we have to get your blood pressure down right away."

We we're all in shock, a little confused and even in denial initially.

Long story short Taylor is now doing daily dialysis and is about to go on a Kidney transplant list.

Hypertensive Retinopathy, Hypertensive Nephropathy, there'a lot of names for it, but the bottom line is he has Kidney Disease and his kidneys are only functioning at 9% capacity.

Which means he needs a kidney.

We're trusting God, Taylor has a great attitude about it, and we are just taking one day at a time.

Taylor has been unable to work as a result of this condition and there is tremendous financial strain on him and his family.

Some bills aren't getting paid at all.

As a family we have come together in every manner to help Taylor and his wife and Caroline, but all of our resources just aren't enough right now.

If you can help with any size donation, that would be amazing. If you cannot then please help us with prayer, for Taylor and his new family.

We need prayer more than anything.  Thank You!

Thankfully Taylor is covered by his insurance so he is getting the treatment he needs right now while he waits for a new kidney.

He's also completely disabled so he will get his disability soon, but that help is a ways off right now.

Right now they just can't pay their bills, so donations will simply be used to help pay bills, and to help with the upcoming expenses for lodging in Utah where the transplant will happen at the University of Utah.

There is a certain amount of time he has to stay and recover in Utah, and those expenses will most likely not be covered by his insurance.

Honestly we are mostly in the dark about whats next, we have no idea when he'll get on the list, how long it will take, what recovery is like, if someone in the family could/should donate a kidney etc...

We feel blessed, 20 years ago this would have been a death sentence, today we have hope that Taylor can get back to living a full life one day.

If you can help with a donation of any size, THANK YOU!
