My birthday is coming up on April 25, and this year, I’m hoping to give myself a special gift—a purple laptop. Living with multiple disabilities, including myasthenia gravis and bronchiectasis, has made life unpredictable and challenging. I’m in and out of the hospital frequently, and I’ve found that my current devices just don’t meet my needs. My Steam Deck will go to a good home, and I keep my iPad for art, but neither is quite right for what I need day-to-day.

Since 2021, when I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, my life has changed dramatically. I also battled stage four thymic carcinoma, which is thankfully at bay for now, though there’s always a risk of recurrence. On top of that, I developed pneumonia that led to a collapsed lung and a long recovery. Now, I’m on oxygen 24/7, and my lungs continue to struggle. I live in a nursing home and most of my income goes to pay for my room and insurance, which makes it hard to afford even basic necessities, let alone something special for myself.

A laptop would make a huge difference for me. It would help me stay entertained and connected during hospital stays, and it would also allow me to continue my small jewelry business, which brings me joy and a sense of purpose. It would help me keep things organized and free up space on my iPad for my art. I’m not someone who likes to ask for help, but sharing my story here feels like the best way to reach out.
