Help Cadet SSgt Taylah Parmeter Get Life-Saving Care

Seventeen-year-old Cadet Staff Sergeant Taylah Parmeter is a dedicated member of Civil Air Patrol, a national youth program that teaches leadership, service, and emergency preparedness. Cadets like Taylah volunteer in their communities, train for emergency response, and commit themselves to serving others.

Now, Taylah urgently needs help.

Since September 2025, Taylah has been battling a serious medical condition that has made it nearly impossible to eat, drink, or maintain basic nutrition. After months of emergency room visits, hospital stays, and being told to “keep trying,” Taylah finally has an answer — and a path forward.

A Rare and Serious Diagnosis
Taylah has been diagnosed with Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA) Syndrome, a rare and debilitating condition in which part of the small intestine becomes compressed between two major arteries. When this happens, food and fluids cannot pass through properly.

It is very much like trying to drink through a crushed straw — no matter how hard you try, nothing can get through.

SMA Syndrome almost always occurs alongside other complex medical conditions, meaning it is likely only part of what Taylah is facing. Now that doctors finally know what is happening, identifying and treating these co-existing conditions is essential to helping Taylah stabilize and recover — but this requires multiple specialists and coordinated care.

Why We Need Help Now
Because SMA Syndrome is rare and complicated, Taylah’s family has struggled to find providers willing and able to take on the case. In the meantime, Taylah continues to weaken while waiting for the right doctors and the right treatment.
The next steps in care require:
• Specialized gastroenterology and vascular specialists
• Genetic and complex-disease evaluation
• Physical and occupational therapy
• Ongoing feeding tube care and nutritional support
• Travel to out-of-area hospitals experienced with SMA Syndrome

Insurance delays and the rarity of the condition mean these steps cannot happen quickly without financial help.

Time matters. The longer Taylah goes without comprehensive care, the harder recovery becomes.

Why Taylah Matters
Taylah is not just a patient — this is a cadet, a leader, and a young citizen who believes deeply in service to others. In July 2025, Taylah was selected as the Honor Cadet for their squadron at encampment, a distinction given to those who demonstrate exceptional leadership, discipline, and dedication. Civil Air Patrol teaches its members to never leave a teammate behind.

Right now, Taylah is the teammate who needs help.
