Help Trevor Go Home to Kenya

Trevor is currently homeless in Vancouver, Canada and unable to receive medical care. This fundraiser aims to raise money for him to go back home to Kenya and receive immediate medical treatment.

Trevor is an intelligent, ambitious and kind-hearted individual from Kenya. Since his Youth, Trevor has excelled tremendously in all he pours himself into, and in 2016, Trevor received the prestigious Mastercard Foundation scholarship to study Mathematics and Sociology at The University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada

A few years into his degree Trevor was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, a disorder affecting 1 in 100 people worldwide. The symptoms may vary from person to person; however, people with the condition usually experience hallucinations, delusions, depression, and mania. The onset of symptoms of schizophrenia usually occurs during college years (18-24 years old), as they did with Trevor.

The pandemic disrupted many people’s lives, including Trevor’s. Remote learning, isolation, and a lack of social support worsened his symptoms, making it difficult for him to complete his studies. Unfortunately, Trevor lost his scholarship and admittance into UBC, affecting his ability to access healthcare and employment. Lack of income, finances, affordable housing and ongoing psychosis have caused Trevor to become homeless.

Though there is no cure for schizophrenia, adults diagnosed with it can manage symptoms and live a normal, fulfilled, and independent life. Treatment for schizophrenia includes antipsychotic medication, psychological treatment, supported employment and family education/support.

Trevor plans to return home where he can receive the healthcare and social support he urgently needs and eventually complete his undergraduate degree. Trevor is enlisting support not just from friends, family, and loved ones but from all well-wishers who want to help him return home to recover in an environment he loves and knows to call home.
