Hi, I'm Tavish. I'm a 13 year old Scout, living in Perthshire, and am part of the 7th Perthshire (Methven) Scouts. I'm one of the lucky few selected to represent the East of Scotland at the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea, in August 2023. To attend this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I need to raise £4,000 - and to do this I'd massively appreciate your support. Over the next year I'll be undertaking a variety of fundraising activities - starting with cycling a virtual tour of South Korea (https://pedalkoreauk.wordpress.com/the-challenge/), and later also making and selling things, having coffee mornings, curry nights, race nights and much more! Definitely exciting times ahead. The cost of the Jamboree also includes a contribution to support Scouts from developing nations to attend, as funding should never be a barrier for any Scout - so any support you give me, supports others too.

 

So, what is The World Scout Jamboree (WSJ)? It's the largest worldwide international Scout event, held every four years, for Scouts aged 14-17. It’s a 12-day camp with roughly 40,000 Scouts. The event is filled with camping, adventures, cooking, celebration of global cultures, science, activities teaching unique and exciting skills, and more! I started with the Scouting movement when I joined Methven Cubs at the age of 8. I have enjoyed so many adventures since then, and my favourite activity has always been going to camp. I've now camped in all seasons ... and of course have badges to show for it :o) I am now a Patrol Leader at Scouts, so help with organising Scout activities, and encouraging the younger members. When I'm 14 I will become an Explorer Scout or Young Leader, and know how much the experience of the World Scout Jamboree will help me give back to Scouts. Events like this fill you with ideas, skills and new friends, which create links for future adventures. In 2019 I had an amazing trip to Austria, camping with an Austrian Scout group, due to international friendships created at a World Jamboree decades ago. I developed a lot from that trip, and this makes me even more excited for the South Korea Jamboree, which will be totally unique.
