On June 18th, 2017, Tatyana Hargrove, 19 yrs old, was beaten by the Bakersfield Police Department and malaciously attacked by K9 Police dog while riding her bike home. She was heading home from the Wooden Nickel after trying to purchase a gift for her father on Father's Day. The officer mistook Tatyana for a 170-pound Bald Man that was suspected of carrying a machete at a grocery store around the corner. The NAACP Bakersfield Branch created a video, that has since gone viral, telling Tatyana's story and is actively seeking justice. The local chapter will be hosting a rally in honor of Tatyana. A petition has been created to drop all criminal charges, implement body cameras on officers, and create a police oversight committee. The donations will help go towards Tatyana's medical bills, counseling for her and the family, and love donations to support the family during this traumatic time .
