Help us send a little more of our love and support to Tate and the Marshall family. These funds will be used for restaurant gift cards, GrubHub, Uber Eats, Target, Amazon, and other gift cards for food and entertainment while Tate is recovering at the hospital and later at home.
On Thursday night, Oct 13, while defending the Fossil Ridge goal against Fort Collins, Tate Marshall took a massive hit. He did manage to make the save but was injured during the save by an opposing team's player.
That hit, before the half, was the beginning of a journey no one could have anticipated. Tate would not be able to re-enter the game. Instead, he was loaded into an ambulance headed to Poudre Valley Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Once there, the tests and scans would begin.
The force of the hit caused Tate’s rib to slice into his spleen and impact his pancreas. Emergency surgery overnight repaired his spleen. Doctors worried about internal bleeding. By Friday, they ruled out fluid around his heart but discovered massive bruising to his lungs. After many more X-rays, scans and tests later and focusing on pain management, the doctors determined that Tate should be transferred to Children's Hospital in Aurora due to a large hematoma forming at the incision site on his right leg. By 8pm Saturday, Tate was loaded onto a helicopter for his ride to Children's.
More scans, ultrasounds and tests revealed that the massive hematoma was the result of the incision leaking blood under the skin on his right leg. While extremely painful, it did not include a dangerous, life-threatening blood clot. A win for the Marshall family team.
Saturday brought some better news. Tate moved out of the ICU and into a slightly less intense trauma surgery room. He got some sleep and was able to eat some strawberry jello! He’s not in the clear just yet. Tate is likely to stay at Children's Hospital for a week before heading home for more recovery
The Marshall family cannot thank their community of family, friends and teammates. They feel they are being cheered on and lifted toward the finish line. The power of supportive text messages, healing vibes and all of the support kept them on their feet while Tate needed them most.
The Marshall family finds it difficult to organize their thoughts on how their beloved community can best help them. Shuttling back and forth between Fort Collins and Denver makes it tricky to eat dropped-off dinner in the same spot right now. This GoFundMe allows those who are able, to assist in a centralized and organized location. Far better than attempting to deliver them dinner in two different cities.
Tate will take to the pitch again. It is only a matter of time. The Marshall family cannot wait to hear your voices cheering beside them.
