Help Tashi Go to School!

Meet Tashi Lhamo Lama. She is a 21 year old Nepali student currently enrolled in Millersville University. She came to the US to pursue her dream of becoming a health professional in order to return to Nepal to serve women in rural parts of her country.
Unfortunately, through no fault of her own, she lost her housing and her sponsorship. A group of us have come together to support her and help her stay in school and not lose her student visa.
Tashi was born in the Gorka District of Nepal, a remote mountain area north of Kathmandu. Her father is a subsistence farmer and her mother died of complications of childbirth when Tashi was one year old.
She left her home at age 5 to go to a boarding school in Kathmandu which was a 2-day drive and 3-day walk from her village. She attended that school through grade 10 and then returned to her village to give public service in order to have the privilege of attending 11th and 12th grades. She taught young Buddhist monks for a year and then returned to Kathmandu to finish High School.
It has long been her goal to study abroad and gain the skills needed to care for Nepali women who are pregnant or have other reproductive health needs. The mortality rate for women and babies in rural Nepal is high due to the lack of health professionals. She hopes to make some impact in that need to save women from the same fate as her mother.
Tashi is a hard worker and serious student . We are privileged to have come to know her and we ask that you consider contributing what you can to help defray her tuition and living expenses. Thank you for your time and attention.
