This GoFundMe has been created on behalf of our dear friend, sister, and community member, Tasheena Christensen.
If you’ve lived in Chelan for any length of time, chances are you or someone you love has been touched by Tasheena’s kindness. Over the past 25 years, she’s cared for countless local children — as a preschool teacher, nanny, and daycare teacher — always with warmth, patience, and a big heart. Families across the valley know her as someone who gives her all to others, showing up with compassion and humor in every moment. Now, it’s our turn to show up for her.
From Tasheena: My Story
On July 30th, my life changed forever.
I underwent a major spine surgery and woke up paralyzed from the waist down. During surgery, I sustained a spinal cord injury. It’s still unknown whether I’ll ever walk again — but we are holding onto hope.
This injury has put me in a very difficult position. I will be out of work for at least a year while I heal and learn to navigate my new normal. I’ve applied for disability payments, but that process takes a minimum of a year to begin. Until then, I’ll have no income — while facing new and unexpected expenses that insurance doesn’t cover.
These include:
Medical supplies and adaptive equipment
Renovations to make my home wheelchair-accessible
A safer, less steep ramp to my front door
A roll-in shower and a new roll-under vanity
Vehicle and mobility aids to help me maintain independence
Beyond my own needs, I also help care for my nephew and our two sweet dogs, Simon and Dolly, who mean the world to me.
My Roots in Chelan
I was born and raised in Chelan, graduated from Chelan High School, and have spent most of my life in this beautiful valley. Over the years, I’ve had the joy of caring for generations of children — and in return, the community has filled my life with love and connection. The outpouring of messages, meals, and visits since my surgery has been overwhelming in the best way. I’ve always believed in caring for others as if they were my own, and I feel so lucky to live in a place where that love is returned tenfold.
Now, I’m humbly asking for your support as I face this new chapter of life.
