Hi there, my name is Tariq and my partner is Erika. We're both nonbinary and live with two other people in a quaint house in Santa Cruz. We have lived here since late October 2020.  One of our housemates has become increasingly hostile and difficult to live with, and attempts to remedy the situations have failed.  Within the past 24 hours  he has continually escalated the situation despite us agreeing to his demands. We are trying to save up money to move into a less hostile living situation as he's starting to threaten us and our deposit.  I work two jobs and Erika also works full time and we were already intending to save up for this but the new developments have led us to seek help to expedite our situation. This housemate has started airing out unrelated racially charged grievances after calling us out on something we owned up to and agreed to fix. He then accused us of being rude and aggressive when we tried to speak to him calmly and respectfully, despite emphasizing numerous times that he wants a household with open communication. Because he is the main tenant who collects rent and utilities, and is the only one with access to direct communication with the landlord, we feel unsafe because he is in a position of power over us financially and has been policing our tone and speech to unfair extents, which is causing us great anxiety and distress. Since he has proven to not be the kind of person one can reason with, we'd greatly appreciate your help collecting funds to secure a new, safe place to live! The money would be put towards a deposit for our new place, rent, and repairs for a car that would allow us to search a wider area because I currently bike to work.
