Hi, my name is Tara, and I’m a single mother doing everything I can to support my two incredible teenagers and our three dogs. Since September 2022, we’ve been living in hotels around Phoenix, Arizona. In April 2023, I finally left an abusive marriage and have been navigating life on my own ever since.
It hasn’t been easy. I’ve been applying to jobs nonstop to improve my financial situation while taking on side gigs to get us by. We’ve lived out of one cramped hotel room—just one bathroom, a small kitchenette, and almost no privacy—for nearly three years. Living like this has made everything harder: healthy meals, celebrating birthdays or holidays, even just feeling like we belong somewhere.
But now, there’s finally a real chance for change.
I was just offered a job in Oregon that could be the turning point for my family. It’s a role that aligns with my current skills and with the degree I’m working toward in English Literature. It’s not just a job—it’s the foundation for rebuilding our lives and working toward long-term financial stability.
More than that, Oregon offers a safer, more inclusive environment where my children can feel seen and thrive. That matters just as much as a roof over our heads.
I have two weeks to get us there. I’m asking for help to raise at least $3,000 to cover three things.
1. Gas for the drive from Arizona to Oregon
2. Hotels and food during the trip
3. A temporary hotel stay once we arrive while I search for housing
If we’re lucky enough to raise more, any extra funds will go toward a deposit and first month’s rent for a stable, permanent home. Beyond that, funds would go towards rebuilding our home, things like pots and pans, bedding, and a couch.
I’ll be sharing updates along our journey—once we’re on the road, after we arrive, and as we settle into our new life. Your support, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page, would mean the world to us.
We’re ready to finally rebuild our foundation and have a space of our own—somewhere to cook real meals, decorate, celebrate birthdays, and just breathe again. Thank you for helping us make that dream a reality.
With deep gratitude,
Tara
