Tara is my cousin, and she’s one of the kindest, funniest people I know. She’s always lived life on her own terms and never asks anyone for anything. Now, she needs our help more than ever. While traveling back from a solo adventure in Thailand, Tara collapsed in a Malaysian airport and was rushed to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur, where she was placed on life support. Her family only learned of her situation when they received a call from the hospital, urgently requesting a family member to come immediately.

Tara’s younger sister, Holli, made the 17-hour journey from the UK as soon as possible, only to be met with a £1000 fee before she could even see Tara. The costs are overwhelming—flights from the UK and US are expensive, and the hospital is demanding additional payments just to allow family access. While Tara thankfully has travel insurance, it doesn’t cover the costs for her family to be by her side, nor does it help with hotels, food, or transport in Kuala Lumpur. The hospital only allows one visitor for one hour a day, making it even more important for more than one family member to be there at a time, despite the challenges of navigating a foreign country in such distressing circumstances.

Tara’s condition is serious—she has infections throughout her body, needs blood transfusions and daily dialysis, and is likely to be hospitalized in Kuala Lumpur for a long time. Even as she slowly regains strength, it will be a long road before she’s cleared to fly home. The financial strain on her family is immense, as they face unpaid time off work and ongoing expenses. We are asking for donations that will only be used to help Tara’s family travel to be with her, covering flights, accommodation, and essential expenses.
