Help Tanya Recover: Artist & Single Mom Hit by a Truck
Don protégé
Tanya, aka Pinky, has been tattooing for 28 years, a mother for 16, a single mother for most of that time, and an absolute punk rock kickass artist, spiritual, and celestially gifted individual for longer than the 39 years I've been blessed to call her my friend (since grade school in Poughkeepsie NY).
On her daughter's 16th birthday, just as she was walking back to their car to drive to her friend's house for some tea and cake, then pizza and D&D, she was hit by a truck. Saved by her dreadlocks from cracking her skull, she nevertheless suffered a serious concussion, and the bones in her wrist broke as she tried to stop her fall.
She's an exceptional artist and a fiercely dedicated mama who has never failed to stand up and fight for what's right. Tanya has lent countless hours of her time, talent, and heart to communities, individuals, and causes in need—whether for those unjustly devastated by war, decimated wildlife populations, or folks fighting discrimination or other cruelties.
Tanya is resilient. Hurricane Helene hit Asheville hard and the tattoo shop she works at was without water and closed until just a couple of weeks before she was hit by the truck. To date still hasn't received any FEMA funds for their apartment damage - UPDATE! she now has health insurance! - thank you Obamacare! - but still has mounting bills, is unable to tattoo and needs physical therapy. Suffering from a concussion is still severely limiting her ability to look at screens, until she doesn't get nauseous from it, she can't even work her second job (language tutoring online). She's hit tough times before, but could really use some help with rent and bills for these months before she can get back to work.
