Help Tanya Rebuild After Arson Attack

Donation protected
On July 10th, a devastating act of arson destroyed Tanya Takaki’s camper home. A firework was thrown into her RV, causing a fire that engulfed her home. Tanya suffered minor burns and injuries as she attempted to stop the fire from spreading to the nearby forest. She managed to save her dog, bird, and one of her cats but tragically, two of her cats did not survive.

THE NEED
Tanya urgently needs a stable living situation to rebuild her life, return to work, and pursue her project of launching the Integrity Collective of Compassionate Islanders (ICCI). This non-profit aims to help unhoused and vulnerable individuals on the island, addressing the critical shortage of affordable housing and providing practical assistance and emotional care for those in need.

Your support will be crucial in helping Tanya secure safe housing, rebuild her life, and continue her mission to assist others. Tanya is a kindhearted fixture of our community; she grew up on the island and returned here four years ago. Having experienced houselessness herself, she has dedicated herself to supporting others. She worked hard to secure her camper home and was on the verge of further stabilizing her situation with a rental property—now, this great setback has turned her life upside down.

This tragic event impacted Tanya deeply, but thanks to her swift response, along with the fire department and others, the arson attack was contained. This quick action prevented what could have been catastrophic damage to Island Center Forest, nearby homes, and the lives of both humans and animals. Given the dry season and the fires raging to the north and south of Vashon, it is remarkable that this criminal act did not lead to greater devastation. Unfortunately, Tanya bore the brunt of the loss.

THE IMPACT
Your generosity can help Tanya land on her feet following this disaster, meeting her immediate needs and ensuring she can continue her work helping others get the resources they need to transition to more stable and secure living situations. By helping Tanya, you are also contributing to a larger cause that will benefit the broader community.
