Help Tanya and Summer Recover from House Fire
Donation protected
A fire broke out in Tanya and Summer's kitchen on Wednesday March 5th and Tanya, Summer, their cat Sprout escaped with just the clothing they were wearing. The fire department luckily arrived in time to contain the fire to the main floor and everyone safely evacuated from the building (including renters in another suite in the house). Our family was hopeful that required repairs would be minimal, but the toxic smoke that filled the house has damaged most areas in the home and their belongings. Tanya and Summer have not been allowed to re-enter the house and an emergency restoration team has estimated it will take six months of restoration and repair until they can move back home.
We are hopeful that insurance will cover the majority of costs, but they have not yet committed to covering a claim. Even if our fire claim is approved, we expect that insurance will not pay out the full costs of what it will take to recover from this emergency.
We hugely appreciate the outpouring of support our community has shown. Any donations we receive will be put towards our immediate costs of covering our insurance deductible and paying for immediate needs of accommodations, food, and bills related to the house and damages.
Backstory: This is the first home our family has owned, which we purchased as a fixer-upper two years ago. After long DIY renovations, Tanya and Summer were finally settling into their new home.
We plan to post regular updates here if you would like to stay up to date on how this situation evolves.
