Tanya Foster, Director of Environmental, was recently struck with tragedy. She has worked for RWE Clean Energy, LLC for a little over two years. Tanya is based in San Marcos, TX.

On April 1, 2024, Tanya's husband, Mark Abrams, was rushed to the hospital with chest pain and was diagnosed initially by the hospital with an aortic dissection. Tanya and Mark were told he’d be taking a ride on the medical helicopter with the critical care team to transfer him to Seton Main where the complex repair could take place. Once he arrived at the hospital, the nurse called Tanya (who was driving to the hospital) to talk to Mark before a 10-hour open-heart surgery. Due to the severity of his illness, many parts of his body underwent incredible stress. His lungs required ventilator support, he was put on bypass and a feeding tube was inserted. Mark spent two weeks in the hospital, 10 of those days in the ICU and is finally home to continue his path towards recovery.

However, there is an aneurysm below his diaphragm that the doctors left in place due to the severity of the dissection and not wanting to keep him under anesthesia any longer. It will need close monitoring and another operation. Mark is home now and can walk short distances and eat small amount of food by mouth. His near future will be filled with in-house nurses, doctors' appointments, physical and occupational therapy along with cardiac rehab. Family has come to help so that Tanya can return to work, but they can’t stay forever. The bills are expected to total over a million dollars but after insurance pays, they will still owe $12k not to mention the non-medical out of pocket costs. Any amount helps and is appreciated as they continue forward. There will be additional surgery in at least six months' time and this money will go to funding these medical bills and any additional medical expenses. There are additional items to consider such as nonmedical costs and loss of income for the rest of the year as well.
