~ HELP IDP IN TIGRAY AND REFUGEES IN SUDAN ~
As you might have heard an humanitarian crisis is taking place in the Northern Region of Ethiopia, Tigray, which roughly counts 6 million inhabitants. Since November 4th 2020, the Ethiopian Federal Government waged war with the Regional Government of Tigray. The Northern Region has been cut off from the world since then, with no access to telephone or internet services, no access to resources and humanitarian aid and no access to their money. As of now, this has been going on for 232 days. The atrocities and inhumane acts Tigray has been facing has detrimental impacts, and this is already seen with the displacement of Tegaru within the Region as well as the fleeing’s to Sudan.
The innocent civilians that are suffering due to this war need our help. Due to this conflict, over 60.000 civilians fled to the neighbouring country Sudan. This number of people is daily growing by thousands of people. Amongst the refugees, the individuals are mostly women and children, who are forced to leave their homes, families, and everything they worked for. In the coming months, the United Nations predicted that the number of refugees in Sudan will increase to as much as 200.000.
Arriving on tractors, in boats, and by foot, they usually have nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Although Sudan accepted the Tigrayan refugees, the country was not prepared for the massive influx of refugees. Refugee camps in Hamdayet, Kesela, and Hashaba were immediately flooded with thousands of refugees, and the supply of tents, food, and blankets provided by local NGOs was quickly depleted.
We, Tegaru Youth Holland, took the initiative to fundraise money to help internal displaced people in Tigray and refugees in Sudan, that had to flee the war zone in Tigray.
