My name is Tanner Hopson and I am a bilateral above knee amputee ! On December 29th of 2019 I admitted myself to the hospital for a very severe backache. On March 11th of 2020 I was discharged with a clean bill of health but having had both my legs amputated above the knees due to septic and toxic shock from a Streptococcus infection in my blood. It was touch and go for some time I am very blessed to still be alive! My entire life has been consumed with healthcare and surgeries. My number one goal has been to get prosthetics so that I could walk again and it looks as though things are coming to fruition in that realm. In March 2021 I was awarded a $4500 grant from the challenged athletes foundation in California! This money is going to go straight to starting a build for a hand bike out of Las Vegas by a company named Lasher. It’s not just your average ordinary hand bike, it has an electric motor assist, mountain bike style tires and shocks! The biggest thing I have faced in this challenge of a new life is maintaining the high level of activity I used to have. Those that know me know I was a very active person and I plan to keep it that way! Up until now I have spent my time pushing my wheelchair walking around in the prosthetics that I currently have and workouts in my room! I am looking forward to being able to get out with family, friends and ride! I’m going to equip my vehicle with a way to drag this thing around!
