Hello my name is Shawnese, on behalf and with permission of my friend Tanieka Smith I’m starting this gofundme to help get her stairs repaired. One of her many dreams was to become a homeowner/landlord. And in 2019 after saving and working hard all these years for the postal service she bought her first home/building. Fast forward to 2024 just when she thought everything was going good for her the front porch suddenly collapsed, her thinking all she have to do is file a claim through the homeowners insurance this should be repaired soon. But no for almost 2 years Statefarm Insurance has not done anything to repair her porch they actually denied her claim using google images from previous years, stating she tried to patch up the stairs when in fact the stairs had never been touched since she purchased the building. Despite her paying her premium on time for her insurance all the previous years and still until this day. During the time Tanieka was going back and forth with Statefarm tragedy also struck her while at work. In March 2025 Tanieka was working delivering mail she was approached by a male subject he attacked her and carjacked her postal vehicle and left Tanieka in the middle of the street she was very shaken up,sore and bruised but luckily she’s alive to tell her story. Not only did he take her postal vehicle he also hit a family driving in Justice,IL with a woman and her kids leaving them critically injured. All this happening to Tanieka while dealing with her own health issues, her Mom who lives with her recovering from open heart surgery and a stroke all in the same year. Not only did this alter her life and causing her to miss work, it got her behind on bills and struggling to catch up while still trying to take care of her mother while she's in rehab. Not only is she stuck with trying to get her stairs repaired out of pocket but she also can’t rent out the apartments in her building to generate extra income because once they see the steps they won’t even consider looking at the unit. The collapsed stairs also create a serious safety issue and making it difficult for her and her family to get in and out of the house especially for her mother whose mobility is limited due to her health issues. But the cost of the repairs is more than she can manage right now. Tanieka is very independent and doesn’t like to ask for help, but she truly needs it right now. Thank you for taking the time to read her story and for any support you can give. No matter the amount every donation, share, and kind word means more to her than she can express.
