Help Tania See the World Again

My sister Tania, a passionate photographer, has faced unimaginable challenges. She suffered severe convulsions that led to multiple strokes in her cerebellum, drastically affecting her balance, coordination, and, most devastatingly, her sight. She now sees only 30% of what she used to, and even that is marred by clear lines.

Tania's journey has been nothing short of miraculous. From the ICU, where we prayed she would make it through the night, to barely being able to open her eyes or move a finger, she has fought her way back with incredible determination. She spent two months in ICU, then flew to the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago and stayed there for five months. Last month, we were able to get funds to get her to Austin, and after two weeks of intensive rehabilitation at a specialized clinic, Tania has shown remarkable progress and can see a bit better. Now home, she continues doing therapy every day, but we need more.

However, her journey is far from over, and time is of the essence. Tania's doctors have emphasized the critical time window for recovery – one year and a half post-stroke. This period is crucial for her to regain most of her functions. After this time, the chances of recovery diminish significantly. Tania's accident occurred on August 1st, 2023, meaning we have limited time to maximize her recovery. We are relying on the incredible neuroplasticity of the brain, which allows it to adapt and heal.

Her limited eyesight has profoundly impacted her life. She cannot take photographs, use a computer, or edit the photos she has taken. This has not only stripped her of her passion but also her ability to work and perform basic tasks. Tania needs at least four more treatments at this clinic to continue improving her eyesight and reclaim her life. The cost is substantial – we need to raise $3,000,000 to cover these treatments. Despite our best efforts and the partial support from our insurance company, we have exhausted our resources.
