Help Tania get back to making a difference !

I would really love your support to raise money and help Tania get back to make a difference!

My brave courageous twin sister Tania underwent 4 hours in surgery theatre last Monday 8th March having Brain Surgery,  a left middle fossa craniotomy to be exact, to treat a very rare medical condition called  Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence (SSCD). SSCD is caused by a hole in the temporal bone (which separates the brain and the inner ear) and the superior semicircular canal with debilitating auditory, vestibular,  functional, and cognitive effects.

Tania, a widow; a mum of 2 young adults; and a self-employed small business consultant, has invested her life into helping others personally and professionally. Tania became debilitated from her SSCD symptoms and has been unable to work much since December last year. Unfortunately Tania’s trauma insurance does not cover such rare conditions.

Less than 3 weeks to prepare for surgery
Unable to manage her symptoms, Tania met with SSCD experts in February 2021 and was told surgery was the only solution. A Middle Fossa Craniotomy procedure (aka Brain Surgery) is the primary treatment for SSCD. Essentially the aim of the surgery is to plug the hole in the superior semicircular canal and the temporal bone in a way that prevents further pressure transmission between the inner ear and brain cavity.  In mid- February Tania was told she needed surgery

Recovery and rehabilitation requires time
Unfortunately, plugging the canal causes permanent loss of vestibular function and some temporary dysfunction and debilitating symptoms which require ongoing vestibular physiotherapy for 3 months minimum post-surgery and sometimes up to 6-12 months.

Post-surgeryTania is struggling with worse symptoms than she had before surgery. Albeit some are temporary some will be permanent without her commitment to ongoing rehabilitation.  This means Tania’s recovery will require regular and consistent vestibular therapy to retrain the brain to work with the eyes and right side of her ear which will now be responsible for all her balance and movements instead of what we all take for granted which is both sides. Every day she is struggling unable to walk without aids due to severe unsteadiness and balance issues, extreme vertigo attacks, and right now although we hope this disappears, all sounds including her own voice sound like robots.

Join me in supporting this inspiring and incredible woman
Tania is a woman who is constantly giving to others so I thought it might be nice for us all to give back to Tania to help her bounce back strong and get back to making a difference in the lives of others, something she is so passionate about.

With her tenacity and resilience, Tania is using stabilising walking sticks to help her walk a few steps a day. Tania is unable to drive, is light-sensitive, or undertake some of the basic daily functions, or work to support her family. With swelling on the brain and around the eye we are hopeful Tania will be able to meet some of the neurological milestones in due course.

With hope and optimism for a positive rehabilitation journey thank you for getting behind Tania with your donation to support Tania’s medical rehabilitation costs.
